Ignition System for 1-6 Cylinder Engines
The Altronic I ignition consists of a permanent magnet alternator unit, one or more remote mounted pickups sensing crankshaft-referenced timing magnets and an ignition coil for each spark plug. The system alternator provides the power for the electronic box mounted to it. The electronic box rectifies the alternator's AC voltage to DC, stores the energy in a capacitor, then releases the stored energy through an SCR electronic switch to the ignition coil(s).
The alternator performs no timing function and can be either belt or coupling driven. Timing is permanently set by timing magnets placed in the flywheel or a crankshaft mounted disc.
Long maintenance-free service is assured since the alternator's oversized ball bearing is the only moving part. All electronic parts plus the ignition and pickup coils are encapsulated in epoxy.
Ignition System for Large Gas Engines 3-20 Cylinders
The Altronic II is an alternator-powered, capacitor discharge ignition system for 3 to 20 cylinder, 2 or 4 cycle, low speed, high BMEP engines. Powered from a 12-pole permanent magnet alternator, Altronic II provides superior performance throughout the engine's operating range. It's basic design features - permanent magnet alternator; easily serviced, removable back cover containing all electronics; and simple, reliable circuitry - have made Altronic II the standard of the industry on large, slow speed industrial gas engines.
Ignition System for Industrial Engines with up to 16 Cylinders
The Altronic III is a self-powered, low tension, capacitor discharge ignition system for 3 to 16 cylinders, 2 or 4 cycle engines. Powered from a 12 pole permanent magnet alternator, Altronic III provides superior performance throughout the engine's operating range. It's basic design features - permanent magnet alternator; easily serviced, removable back cover containing all electronics; and simple, reliable electronic circuitry - have made Altronic III the standard of the industry on medium to large industrial gas engines.
Ignition System for 1-6 Cylinder Engines
The Altronic V is a self-powered, low tension, capacitor discharge ignition system for 1 to 6 cylinder, 2 or 4 cycle engines. The Altronic V unit can be furnished with any number of output channels between 1 and 6. For 4-cycle applications, a choice is offered of units using the exhaust stroke firing principle or units firing on the compression stroke only. Altronic V has internal timing pickup coils combined with Altronic's proven 8-pole permanent magnet alternator to give high output at low engine cranking speeds. The electronic circuit has a minimum of components for maximum reliability, and all are mounted on the unit's removable back cover for ease of service.

CPU 95 Ignition System
ADVANCED DIGITAL IGNITION
SYSTEM FOR INDUSTRIAL ENGINES
The Altronic CPU-95 is a 24 Vdc-powered, microprocessor-based digital
ignition system designed for application to medium-range industrial
gas engines. Advantages include a full-featured user display and interface,
spark characteristic control, advanced timing adjustment options,
serial communications, and state-of-the-art diagnostics.
Full access to all CPU-95 operating data and control functionality is
available through an advanced, user-friendly Display Module as well
as via a PC operating the provided CPU-95 Terminal Program. Both
options display essential engine and ignition data such as RPM, timing
angle, spark energy level, and diagnostic messages, along with global
and individual cylinder timing adjustments, spark energy level control,
overspeed setpoint and double strike/extended spark (VariSparkTM
variant) selectability. Additionally, the Enhacend Display Module
features extensive spark reference number graphing and trending.
Patented CPU-95 diagnostics and prognostics (predictive diagnostics)
supervise all ignition system-related functions. The secondary analysis
capabilities detect shorted spark plugs and leads, as well as spark
plugs that exhibit high voltage demand or are not firing at all. A display
of the relative voltage demand of each spark plug is provided, allowing
spark plug changes to be predicted and scheduled. Module and
pickup operation, timing input, and primary output functions are also
monitored for operation within preset limits.

AND INTEGRAL COMPRESSORS
The Altronic CPU-2000 is a 24 Vdc-powered, microprocessorbased
digital ignition system for application to large natural
gas-fueled engines. Advanced control, diagnostic, display,
communications, and emissions-reduction features allow for
monitoring and control of the engine’s ignition and combustion.
An optional Diagnostic Module, easily retrofit to existing
CPU-2000 installations, enables users to monitor and act upon
changes in spark voltage demand.
Critical operating parameters and diagnostic messages are
displayed on the Logic Module’s alphanumeric, backlit display.
These include engine RPM, ignition timing angle, energy level,
multi-strike mode, and system and pickup faults.
Most system features, including global and individual cylinder
timing, ignition energy, multi-strike mode, and overspeed setpoint
are accessible from the keypad as well as via an RS-485
serial port. Setup and application-specific adjustments are
made through a standard personal computer.

The EPC-110/120/100E/150 Air/Fuel Ratio Controls are applicable to most carbureted natural gas-fueled engines. This universal line of emission control systems includes three specific models – two of them for stoichiometric applications using a catalytic converter (EPC-110/120 and EPC-100E), and a third model used exclusively on carbureted, lean-burn engines (EPC-150).
The EPC control systems utilize microprocessor technology, thus allowing for the execution of sophisticated control strategies, and a high-level of application-specific customization. This advanced control and setup functionality is coupled with a complete line of precision, industry-proven fuel control valves. Taken together, these capabilities collectively assure the user of long-term air/fuel ratio stability and reduced engine exhaust emissions. While stoichiometric and lean-burn engines require fundamentally different oxygen sensing technologies, all EPC systems operate on the basis of closed-loop control to a setpoint utilizing data from an exhaust-mounted oxygen sensor as feedback. With the exhaust oxygen setpoint for lowest emissions entered into the controller, the EPC unit precisely controls the flow of fuel to the engine through the stepper motor valve(s) so as to maintain the target oxygen level during engine operation. The EPC controllers feature an alphanumeric LCD display which gives operators continual access to critical operating data without the need for non-hazardous area approved hand-held programmers or PC’s. Controller operating mode, stepper motor control valve position(s), and exhaust oxygen sensor value(s) are just a few of the display-accessible parameters. To facilitate integration with supervisory monitoring and control systems, the EPC systems fully support the ModBus RTU communications protocol. A full-featured PC-based monitoring and control software package is included with each system at no additional charge to the user. All EPC systems operate on DC-power, with a typical current draw of 1-3 amps (depending upon model). In remote areas or on applications without DC-power available, power can be provided by the Altronic 24VDC Alternator Power Packages – refer to form ALT for further details. The entire EPC family of control products is certified by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) as safe for use in Class I, Division 2, Group C and D hazardous areas.

The Altronic EPC-200C Engine Performance Controller is designed to maximize engine performance and efficiency. Microprocessor-based, the EPC electronically controls ignition timing and air/fuel ratio replacing the traditional pneumatic control system for these functions. Engine RPM plus up to four other analog inputs can be used as control variables; typically, these would include fuel manifold pressure, air manifold pressure and air manifold temperature. The four inputs and two analog outputs are in the form of 1–5 volt or 4–20 ma signals for easy interfacing with available transducers. The EPC is specially designed to operate in conjunction with Altronic II-CPU and Altronic III-CPU. In addition to the two analog control functions (ignition timing and air/fuel ratio), the EPC-200C also has six user-programmable solid-state relay outputs related to the common start-up sequencing functions such as purge, overcrank, crank disconnect, flooding, etc. A seventh discrete output provides a signal in the event of overspeed, overload or loss of any input; if this occurs, timing and air/fuel ratio are set to preset values. In addition, there is a manual override mode to allow changing and checking of program data while the engine is running. The EPC-200C has a RS422 interface for communications capability with other process or control computers.

DIGITAL ANNUNCIATOR WITH ADVANCED
FEATURES AND COMMUNICATIONS
The latest version of Altronic’s industry standard
annunciator, the DD-40NTV series monitors up to 40
electrical contacts that represent limits on critical
operating parameters such as engine or process
pressures, temperatures, levels, etc. Upon detection
of a fault from one of the monitored points, the annunciator
displays the corresponding 2-digit fault
code for that point and generates an output signal
(typically to close a fuel valve and ground the ignition).
The DD-40NTV annunciator offers integral tachometer
and hourmeter functions as well as overspeed protection
adjustable from the front keypad. Other features carried
over from the prior DD-NTS series include four configuration
templates (two of these simulate the older DD-NT 20
and 40 point models), two programmed timers for class B
points and a programmable delay of the second shutdown
output after fault detection. The annunciator continues
logic operation on the internal battery in the event the
power becomes disconnected or fails.
UNIVERSAL PROCESS LOOP
The Altronic DE-1500 Universal Process Loop Controller is designed for
use in the control of virtually any engine, compressor, or industrial
process. Using both digital and analog inputs for parameters such as
speed, temperature, and pressure, this completely user-configurable
control can utilize one or both of its independent PID outputs to dynamically
adjust a process (or processes) to maintain a specified setpoint.
Among the many suitable applications for the DE-1500 is its
use as a suction controller for compressors in gas production or
processing service. Continuously monitoring the compressor
suction pressure, the DE-1500 can be configured to throttle
the gas pressure control valve either directly or via an interposing
I/P converter (see diagram to right). In a similar fashion, critical
temperatures could also be monitored and maintained through the use
of an input thermocouple or temperature transducer and one of the DE-
1500 PID outputs controlling a compressor fin-fan or other cooling
device. The DE-1500 can also send a speed setpoint to a suitable
governor or control device (such as the GOV10) for RPM control of the
compressor prime mover (engine or electric motor).

Configurable Safety Shutdown and Control
System with Analog Input Capabilities
The DE-3000 Configurable Safety Shutdown and Control
System uses state-of-the-art microcontrollers and
surface-mount PCB assembly technology to provide
users of compressors and other critical rotating equipment
with a sophisticated, yet reliable, means of protecting and controlling
both the prime mover and the load machine (compressor, pump,
etc.). Incorporating an “intelligent” add-on board system, the DE-3000
system is fully scalable, allowing users to incorporate a single control
system technology across a wide range of applications.
The base DE-3000 configuration (see inside) offers a number of both digital
and analog outputs, as well as thirty (30) inputs that can be individually
configured for use with switch contacts, thermocouples, or analog
transducers. Using one of two different add-on terminal boards, medium
and high-spec applications can be accommodated with up to sixty (60)
configurable inputs, twenty (20) digital outputs, and four (4) user-adjustable,
analog PID outputs. This approach also allows for a single control
system to be used across a fleet of units, thus simplifying maintenance
and part stocking requirements, along with system training requirements
for operating personnel.
Digital/Bar-Graph Tachometer/Speed Switch
The Altronic DSG-1201 series is an advanced digital/bar-graph setpoint gauge for monitoring and displaying speed or rate. The device can be used to monitor speeds of engines or other rotating equipment. The input pulse rate can originate from a C.D. ignition system, magnetic pickup or other type of active pickup varying from 0.5 to 500 pulses per revolution. The speed display can be at any designated ratio to the measured RPM. Power requirement is 12-36 Vdc, 50 mA maximum.
A unique feature of the DSG series gauges is the digital readout/bar-graph display. The analog bar-graph gives the operator an immediate indication of the reading as a percent of (user selectable) RPM span or span between high/low setpoints, as well as a reference to direction and amplitude of a rapid change in reading. The display also indicates "RPM" (which can be turned off for other rate applications) and annunciates alarms by number.
Digital/Bar-Graph Ignition Timing Indicator
The Altronic DSG-1401 series is an advanced digital/bar-graph setpoint gauge for monitoring and displaying ignition timing on spark ignited engines. The input signals are from the number 1 cylinder ignition coil primary and a magnetic pickup providing a top-dead-center reference signal. Power requirement is 12-36 Vdc, 50mA maximum.
The front panel of the microprocessor-based gauge has a sealed membrane keypad for easy selection or adjustment of the setpoints and readout filtering. The DSG-1401 models have two timing setpoints with individual solid state outputs which can be programmed for either high or low, N.O. or N.C. operation. In addition, each setpoint is individually adjustable for hysteresis, trip delay time and reset delay time. The third and forth outputs are used to provide rotation-confirm and fire-confirm signals that can be used, for example, in an engine start-up sequence. The precise, programmable nature of the output switch operation allows these gauges to be used as control devices.
DTHO 1201/3201 SERIES
The DTHO 1201/3201 series tachometers represent the
third generation of digital speed sensing and indication
devices from Altronic. Designed for universal use, these
high-quality, microprocessor-based devices can be powered
from either a C.D. ignition “shutdown lead” or a
magnetic pickup, and are offered in two durable Lexan
enclosures for use on natural gas engines and other critical
rotating equipment. Overspeed trip and hourmeter functionality
is resident in both devices.

WITH HIGH/LOW SETPOINTS
The Altronic 45PHL series pressure switch-gauges offer a new
standard for a mechanical pressure gauge with high/low switch
contacts. Utilizing a “direct drive” movement, the antiquated
C-bourdon tube used in most other pressure gauges is
eliminated as are the gears, links, levers and springs used
to connect the C-tube to the indicating pointer. The 45PHL
series uses a special helically-wound coil of Inconel, directly
connected to the indicating pointer. Fewer parts, fewer problems.
The “direct drive” design provides for longer life than even
liquid-filled conventional gauges in severe service applications.
The basic design is inherently safer due to the very small tube
I.D. and a rubber blow-out plug in the rear wall of the case. It
is also more resistant to pulsation.

Digital Temperature Gauges with Alarm/Shutdown Switch
The Altronic DPYH-1300U series temperature gauges are solid-state instruments which give a continuous temperature readout and have an alarm/shutdown capability at a user-adjusted temperature limit. Using industry-standard thermocouple probes, all models can be selected for either Fahrenheit or Centigrade readout. Power is from industrial C.D. ignition systems or 12-48 Vdc. The solid-state output limit switch can be used with Altronic annunciators or other specified devices (such as solenoids or conventional relays) operated from D.C. current.
Three basic types are available:
---DPYH-1301U monitors 1 point with a high-limit setpoint; the device has output switches for both normally open and normally closed operation.
---DPYH-1392U monitors 2 points, with an individual high-limit setpoint for each channel; output switches for both normally open and normally closed operation are included.
---DPYH-1379U monitors 9 points with 0 protected by the first high-limit setpoint and points 1-8 protected by the second common high-limit setpoints.
WITH ALARM SWITCH
The Altronic DPYH-4300U digital pyrometers are electronic
instruments designed to monitor temperatures using industrystandard
type J or K thermocouple probes. Models are available
having 4, 6 or 8 channels. All versions can be set for readout in
either degrees C. or F. and may be powered from either a C.D.
ignition system or 12–48 Vdc.
In the DPYH-4390U series, an individual high alarm setpoint is
provided for each channel. Model DPYH-4354U has one common
setpoint for four channels. The setpoints are adjustable by the
user from the front of the device using the display. Each alarm
channel has its own dedicated normally-open solid-state output
switch suitable for hook-up to an Altronic annunciator or DCoperated
The display indicates both the channel number and the monitored
temperature. A push of the sealed membrane keypad allows
any channel to be displayed for readout or for a continuous scan
of all channels; all points are continuously monitored internally for
alarms. All device configuration data and setpoints are entered
through the front keypad.
